Learn how to embrace frugality to stretch your resources, improve your wellbeing and lessen the impact of your global footprint.
Get involved by: entering the “feed five for $5” competition; showcasing your revamped, upcycled or funked-up clothing and accessories in the fashion parade (rehearsals before the day); displaying your imaginatively repurposed old or broken items; sharing your money-saving tips; joining the Quaama Village garden tour (starting at the Hall); selling your wares; buying some raffle tickets or just soaking up the atmosphere.

Genealogy Society meeting
All are cordially invited to the Bega Valley Genealogy Society’s final meeting for 2017, Sunday, October 29, at 2pm at the Old Courthouse, Pambula.
Please consider bringing an item of family memorabilia or even details of a research breakthrough you’ve had as those present will love to hear about them. The afternoon will conclude with afternoon tea.
‘Year of the Dog’ art prize
Spiral Gallery Co-operative is sponsoring the “Year of the Dog”, an open art prize exhibition to be held at Spiral Gallery, Bega, from February 16, to March 14, 2018.
The open art prize is open to all members of the community plus artists working in any medium at any level of practice.
Cavorting canines, pampered pooches, faithful friends, wonderful working dogs, all things dog.
A maximum of two works per artist is allowed, with an entry fee of $30 per work.
The First Prize winner will receive a cash prize of $800 plus a $200 accommodation voucher from Tathra Beachside.
There are great prizes for the runner-up, the Encouragement Award and the People’s Choice Award.
The open art prize is sponsored by: Candelo General Store and Café, Wild Rye’s Baking Company, Pambula Boarding Kennels and Outasite Storage, Tathra Tyre and Auto Service, Tathra Beachside, Bermagui Veterinary Clinic, Candelo Books, Bega Garden Nursery and Tathra Beach Tapas.

Bemboka Flower Show
The biggest flower show on the Far South Coast is almost here again.
Bemboka Garden Club members are preparing for the club’s 33rd Annual Flower Show to take place on Sunday, October 29, between 12 noon and 3pm at the Bemboka Memorial Hall.
Admission $5 - includes tasty light refreshments.
There will be a major raffle for a wheelbarrow full of garden goodies, and also a Lucky Door Prize.
Entry tickets for the various categories (including roses, produce & pot plants, cut flowers and floral art) are available at the Bemboka Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 28, from 9am to 11am and also Sunday, October 29, from 8am to 10am. We hope to see you there.
Beekeeping workshop
The Bega Valley Amateur Beekeepers Inc. will be holding a One-Day Maintaining Your Hives workshop presented by Rod Bourke, Bee Biosecurity Officer, NSW Department of Primary Industries on Sunday, November 12, 9am to 2pm, in the Historic Old Bega Hospital grounds, 301 Newtown Road, Bega.
The workshop will benefit anyone wishing to build upon their existing skills and knowledge. It includes a morning of theory including: finding your queen and re-queening; identifying, treating and preventing pests and diseases, combining hives, seasonal management and establishing a nucleus hive. Lunch will be followed by a demonstration and guided hands on work with bees. The cost is $100 (club members $60) and includes morning tea (BYO lunch). Nethercote Market
Early risers can look forward to picking up the best spring has to offer with stunning produce fresh from local gardens and farmers at the Nethercote Produce Market on Saturday, October 28, from 8am to 12 noon. The ever-popular community fruit and veg stall will be a sea of green with avocados, silverbeet, herbs, citrus and much more. The market will also have veggie garden seedlings on sale at a great price.
Seedling man Rob Cochrane from Karma Farm at Millingandi, will also have tried and tested crop seedlings for sale, so if you’re getting your veggie garden in order, a visit to the spring market is a must.
The market welcomes Kalaru’s Annette Sillis and her homemade pork pies to the spring market. It welcomes back Wheatley Lane Bread, Dulce Ana and her sinfully delicious dulce lece, XO foods and their fab muesli, and Gary and Deling from Towamba with their authentic apple pies.
The Nethercote Residents will cook up a breakfast storm on the barbecue, with proceeds supporting further Nethercote Hall improvements. Then sit in the sun outside and listen to live music from Red Heart Blue. Watch Rasheed whip up some south Indian chicken, lentils and rice in the kitchen cooking demo at 11am.
Nethercote Hall is situated on the corner of Nethercote and Back Creek Roads.
