The ABA Bega Valley group will be spreading out picnic rugs and putting up an information stall to encourage local parents, children and community members to come and join them in a friendly atmosphere.
The event is one of many coordinated across the country every October with the aim of celebrating breastfeeding and helping mothers feel comfortable to feed anytime, anywhere.
ABA’s acting CEO Kate Nuttall said supporting mothers to breastfeed in public can make a world of difference, particularly for those who may feel vulnerable feeding in public.
“Mothers are protected by law and have the right to breastfeed whenever and wherever they choose,” she said.
“However, the reality is that many still feel uncomfortable and judged for feeding in public, ABA is doing everything we can to help change this way of thinking.”
Ms Nuttal said the ‘Baby’s Day Out’ event was an opportunity to spread the message that the more support a mother has, the more likely she is to continue breastfeeding and gain the confidence she may need to breastfeed whenever and wherever her baby needs.
“It is amazing how much of a difference mum-to-mum and peer support can make,” she said.
“By taking part in ‘Baby’s Day Out’, we hope that mothers everywhere will have the confidence to feed their babies without fear, no matter where they are.”
The ABA Bega Valley will host their ‘Baby’s Day Out’ event at the SCPA markets in Littleton Gardens on Friday, October 27 from 9am to 12pm.
