Despite winning the crown the last two years, the South East side was comprehensively rolled over the weekend, dropping both their matches to even miss a finals berth.
Far South Coast Association spokesman Dave Allen said a number of unfortunate scheduling conflicts meant a lot of the regions strong contenders missed the fixture.
“Unfortunately we were rolled both days in pretty comprehensive losses,” Dave Allen said. “But we had a number of players with scheduling conflicts, so we lost players like Kel Evans, Robbie Ringland and Corey Spink.”
Allen said it was an unfortunate matter of work conflicts, but also Canberra-based T20 finals plucking some of the stars from the South East line-up.
The result didn’t line up for the South Coast side either, who made the grand final, but fell over at the crease to lose to the Southern Highlands, going all-out for just 71.
However, Allen said the local juniors had been flying the flag for the Far South Coast competition.
Budding juniors scored wins in the opening round of the southern zone representative matches in the under 12s, 14s and 16s.
Justin McDonald starred for the southern combine, hitting 41 against the Northern Cavaliers to set up a middle order stand after something of a wobbly start.
Eden’s Jessie Mudaliar also contributed well, with 16-not-out in a late stand to claim the win.
Officials said the result for the under 16s was spectacular, getting over the Cricket ACT side, scoring 9/150.
The team had one wicket to spare after containing the Cricket ACT squad to 149 on the day. Jack Allen claimed three wickets, while Zac Wells chipped in for two in the strong result.
It was a consistent display from the FSC outfit, with a couple of handy late stands ensuring a competitive total.
“Our boys can be very proud of their efforts,” A spokesman said, adding the game was played in good spirits. Meanwhile, the under 12s scored their round one win over Monaro in a good outing.
