It all started with a parade up Carp Street of horse-drawn vehicles, decorated floats, vintage cars etc. The parade then crossed the old Tarraganda Bridge and a closing ceremony was held after the parade had gone through.
The new bridge was officially opened by the Member for Eden-Monaro, Jim Snow, by cutting a ribbon.
At his request the Department of Main Roads had printed along the ribbon details of the opening and the date and the DMR logo.
These souvenir ribbons were so popular that it took the official procession some time to get underway to actually cross the newly opened bridge, so the first people to perform this act were a woman with a toddler in a stroller who casually wandered off and were well over the bridge before the official party had moved.
