A group of 10 local community members have been training under the wings of the region’s finest dancers since August in preparation for the event.
When they’re not practicing their moves, the dance stars have been busy fundraising before the gala show.
Money raised will help Cancer Council NSW provide prevention programs, advocacy campaigns, information and practical support services to families living with cancer in the Bega Valley.
Rebeccah Norman is one of the dancers taking to the stage, in the lead up to the big night she hosted a Mad Hatter themed tea party fundraiser at her farm near Quaama.
“We couldn’t have picked a better day for it, it was a fantastic turnout,” she said.
Ms Norman’s 25 guests raised $360 between them at the tea party, significantly boosting her fundraising total which will be donated to Cancer Council NSW.
So far, the 10 stars have raised almost $14,500 between them through trivia nights, donation boxes and online campaigning.
Ms Norman is looking forward to her turn on stage on Saturday evening.
“I’ve done dancing before, so performing won’t be the challenge,” she said
“But I’ve chosen a dance style I’ve never tried before, so that is the challenge I have taken up for myself in this process.”
She said she was practicing her routine like a student crams before an exam.
Other stars performing on the night include Janine Ballard, Rose Liddall, James Poso, Taylor McNeil, Debbie Gardiner, Jodie Dunnage, Don Hassan, Jeremy Fernando and Annette Haigh.
Last year’s Dancing With the Stars-style event saw eight stars and their dance partners help raise more than $15,000 for Cancer Council NSW’s support and advocacy programs.
the Stars of Bega Valley Dance for Cancer event will be held at Club Sapphire. A further $30 from each ticket sold to the event is donated directly to Cancer Council NSW.
