He might have only lived in the Bega Valley for three months, but former Melburnian Stuart Cook has made his name known after taking out the annual Bega Open at the Bega Country Club across the weekend.

Cook won the cup by six strokes to add his name to a long list of club champions.
The amateur, who plays off a handicap of about three to four, shot 77 in the first round and 74 in the second to be named the open champion.
Bega Golf Club president Simon Owens said the tournament was well attended.
“Saturday saw a terrific 61 players compete with some sensational scoring being displayed,” Owens said.
“A grade nett winner was Shaun Kennedy with 70, B grade saw Laurie Billman win with nett 71, while evergreen Howard Filmer won C grade with an outstanding 65 nett.”
Owens said Sunday’s round saw 40 players compete with good rounds again being the order of the day.
“A grade was won by Harry Peterson with nett 69, B grade by Sean McCambridge with nett 70, while C grade was won by Alf Buttgereit with nett 74,” Owens said.
Overall results for the open saw A grade scratch winner Garry Krucler ahead of Jack Roberts, while Allan Batey won the A grade handicap from Graham Roberts.
B grade scratch winner Laurie Billman edged out Herbert Moore, while B grade handicap winner James Moore finished ahead of Ron Veller.
Howard Filmer won the C grade scratch from Peter Gibbs and Alf Buttgeit finished just ahead of Jon Harney.
Meanwhile Club Bega will host its annual golf ball drop at the Bega Country Club on Sunday, October 22 from 11am.
The much anticipated event will see golf balls dropped by a helicopter onto the green, with the closest ball to the hole to net $10,000.
The day will also include joy flights, market crafts, food stalls and free entertainment from Garry Carson Jones.
There will also be a jumping castle and face painting for the kids. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and make the most of the day.
