The club will hold its annual trading table at this dinner, members are asked bring along any saleable items, please price your own items, and don't forget to take any unsold items home with you. 

The guest speaker will be Jane Darcy. a sonographer, and the lovely bowl donated by John Cross will be drawn.

The ladies who travelled to Tamworth for the National Convention, will also, hopefully, give everyone some details of the weekend.

VIEW Club is a leading women's volunteer organisation and support network that empowers women to have their voices heard on issues of importance for the future wellbeing of Australian Society.

The October meeting of the Far South Coast Bird Watchers will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 12, at the Uniting Church, Henwood Street, Merimbula.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Peter Marsack, one of the three artists for the recently released CSIRO Australian Bird Guide.  He will talk about the process of painting the artwork and the thinking behind the choice of images to complement the text. 

This turned out to be a much longer process than anyone expected. In the end a planned five-year project took nearly 10, mainly due to the time the three artists needed to paint the total of over 4000 images.

Bring any feathers you have found along to the meeting for Peter to identify.  Our evening will conclude with a light supper and the opportunity for a chat.

Visitors are most welcome, as well as potential new members, to attend our meetings and regular bird walks.

It was a sad occasion for Bega Hospital Auxiliary when we were informed of the recent death of one of our long time members, Margaret Galli. Margaret was a member for well over 20 years and was a real stalwart of the auxiliary.

A quiet achiever, she cooked, made sandwiches, sold raffle tickets and was always one of the first to volunteer for extra duties. She will be a real loss to us and will be missed by the whole auxiliary.

Our sincerest sympathy goes to Paul and her family, especially her daughter Helen who is also a valued member of the Bega Hospital Auxiliary.

At the recent Auxiliary meeting it was decided to buy an Emergency Department trolley at a cost of $11,000. Tathra Hospital Auxiliary will buy the second trolley which the South East Hospital requires.

As well we will buy two Falls Mats at a cost of $10,000. As well the members were very happy to buy an iPod for use in the oncology ward.

The Auxiliary was delighted  to receive two generous donations recently, one from The Bega Men’s Bowling Club and one from the 4D Jackaroo Club from Sydney.

Both these donations will go towards the ED Trolley and the falls mats. We thank both groups very much.

The next meeting of the Bega Hospital Auxiliary will be held on Friday, October 20, at 10am in the Group Therapy Room on the 1st Floor. We welcome new members.

Tathra Hospital Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday, October 11, in the Green Shed at 2pm.  

Members and friends are invited to a morning tea at the Bird Park on Evans Hill on Thursday, October 19; commencing at 9.30am and at a cost of $12 for coffee and cake along with a talk. 

The $12 does not include entry to the birds but you are welcome to follow up the morning tea with a visit to the birds.

The Auxiliary would like to thank Tathra Lions Club and the Tathra Golf Club for their generous donation following the Combined Charity Golf Day.

The Cobargo Garden and Friendship Club will meet on Monday, October 9, at the garden of Gill and Dave Morgan, 155 Motbeys Rd, Wandella. Arrive at 12 noon and bring your own lunch.  Tea, coffee and cake supplied.

A car boot sale will be held on Saturday, October 28, in the church grounds at St Martin By The Sea. St Martin By The Sea is a small church in the Bega Parish and we are very concerned with  the homeless and those doing it tough in our local community. 

Then there are those across the country who need help and let’s not forget the wider picture of the many nations needing  assistance.

We can not possibly serve all this hardship, but let's do our bit and put our hands in our pocket and raise money for those in need. And why not have some fun, whilst doing this act of kindness.

St Martin By The Sea has beautiful grounds for all to enjoy a day out. Yes, safety for the children, food for all and plenty of fun for al.

Aboriginal artists Cheryl Davison and Lee Cruse introduce this season’s program of monthly exhibitions at Ivy Hill Gallery.

Cheryl Davison’s fine brush work is executed with unwavering skill as she weaves the stories passed to her by her elders.  This accomplished artist draws inspiration from living in the shadow of the sacred mountain, Gulaga.

Lee Cruse has developed a meticulous style of painting based on the body painting of the dancers in the last corroboree to take place in Nowra.  Lee’s grandfather, Pastor Ossie Cruse, attended the corroboree as a young man.  Lee’s painting, Jungar Hunting, was chosen to adorn the Eden water tower.

Both artists are residents of the Far South Coast and have spent time developing a unique “coastal style” of portraying their stories.

You will find Ivy Hill Gallery on the coast road at Wapengo between Bermagui and Tathra.  The Gallery is open from 10am-5pm, Thursday to Sunday.  The exhibition runs to October 29.

Spiral Gallery's fourth annual Sakura exhibition opens on Friday, October 13. On display will be kimono, clothes, textile, jewellery, ceramic, painting, wood and glass work, artist book, ukiyoe, small furniture, antiques and collectibles.

The exhibition features works by Reiko Healy, Nancy Brunton, Mia Karlsson, Neil Campbell, Pam Eyles, Mark Lem, Susi Kleber, David Harris and Peter Read. On opening night, from 5pm, there will be live Japanese music with bamboo flute, cello and Stonewave Taiko drummers. Japanese food will also be served. The exhibition runs for two weeks only and is a cash and carry display. The Spiral Gallery opens Monday to Saturday at 10am.

Bega Rotary is hosting a fund-raising trivia night on Saturday, October 14, from 6pm at the Sapphire Coast Turf Club in Kalaru. The trivia night is in support of Australian Rotary Health Hat Day, designed to “lift the lid” on mental illness and open up channels of conversation.

There will be prizes for best hat – and everyone must wear one – lucky door prizes, raffles and an auction.
