Last week, general practice training provider, GP Synergy, held a networking event at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre to help new registrars settle into their new home.

Almost 30 GP registrars training in practices in Bega, Bermagui, Merimbula, Tura Beach and Eden met with supervisors, practice managers and Bega Valley Shire mayor Kristy McBain

Registrar Corin Miller, is completing her training at the Bega Valley Medical Practice after moving from Sydney to the Far South Coast a year ago with her family. 

“The case load and patient mix is more varied in the country, it is professionally rewarding,” Dr Corin Miller said.

“It has enabled me to grow as a doctor by exposing me to a huge range of clinical presentations, and I’ve met some inspirational mentors.”

“I plan on continuing to work in general practice at Bega Valley Medical Practice and in emergency medicine at South East Regional Hospital when I receive my fellowship in the next few weeks.

“It’s been a great place to train and work. Plus, the lifestyle is much more relaxed than in the city,” she said.

GP Synergy’s regional head of education for South Eastern NSW, Alison Miller, said regionally-tailored training programs, are a main focus of the Australian government funded organisation’s education program.

“GP Synergy is committed to supporting registrars and supervisors to ensure GPs starting their careers receive the best medical training, and realise what a great part of the world this is to live and practise in,” Dr Allison Miller said.

There are currently more than 120 GP registrars training in 108 accredited general practices in South Eastern NSW.
