Officials said it was “a perfect day for the club season’s warm up races”. 

Members were met with warm and sunny conditions with a calm breeze in the morning. 

However, officials said it built from nothing to a solidly moderate wind with occasional big gusts. 

The boats were thoroughly tested and everyone came back grinning from the speed thrills. Thanks to Darren Joey Lydiard and Ava Petersen for officiating the racing.

Officials said sailing is a skill for life and it’s something that can be done at any age. 

Anyone interested in getting into the sport, the Boat Club will be holding free regular training sessions Saturday mornings before competition. 

“We’ll be offering free training to help new sailors join the fleet,” a club spokesman said. 

“And you don’t need to run out and buy a bot to start, we have some club boats available for you to sail on.”

Organisers said safety was key, so potential members would need to be able to swim 20m and sign up with the club to take part. 

The club is located at Wallagoot Lake Road with lake frontage. 

This Saturday the sailors will enjoy two handicap-start races.

“Then we’ll be coming home to watch a recorded version of the Richmond Tigers winning the AFL grand final,” the spokesman added with a laugh.
