It was a morning filled with emotion – whether elation at finishing 13 years of schooling, trepidation at heading into HSC study and exams, or even a few throttled back tears from year adviser Scott Harris.
Special guest speaker at the assembly was Nathan Barnden, who graduated from Bega High School the same year the current cohort was starting out.
His was an incredibly inspiring speech of what can be achieved in six years and how students should chase their dreams and not let their ATAR define them.
Despite a “disappointing” Australian Tertiary Admission Rank, Mr Barnden was still able to achieve success in the field he had planned on chasing, but also found his calling in his beloved RFS that has now led to him being the youngest person ever to reach the rank of Inspector.
Mr Harris and BHS principal Linda Thurston both congratulated the large Year 12 cohort, wishing them the very best fopr their upcoming exams and whatever lay beyond them.
Mr Harris left his students with the key message of “Dream, believe, strive and succeed”.
