Work began on the building in 1859, so the team had to dig through black and white photographs guide them through the restoration project.
Heritage Stone Works’ David Lambkin from the Department of Finance, Services and Infrastructure said the use of local tradespeople “really helped with community involvement”.
Sapphire Welding’s James Steel was tasked the job of reconstructing the inner workings of the school’s bell, and could only find one “old, blurry” image of the wheel at the Bega Pioneers Museum.
“There was one photo looking clearly inside, but there was no bell,” he said.
“We also had to figure out how hard you had to pull it and how far it had to swing.”
