Tathra Lions president Anthony Dack said it was an excellent result for the yearly event with a swarm of men’s and ladies golfers taking part on the day.
The proceeds will be split between the Lions, the Tathra ladies hospital auxiliary and Legacy.
Dack said teams were out on course to share a laugh, have a bit of fun and donate where they could towards the community groups.
“It’s not super-competitive because that’s not the spirit of the day … it’s very much a social round – especially if I am playing,” Dack said with a laugh.
“The Country Club graciously gives us the course for the day and the three groups come together to run it.
“It was a fun day for everyone and we were delighted to raise more than $2000."
Dack said there were nearly full fields in the competition, but said organisers were already looking forward to next year and hoping to welcome a full contingent of players.
He said players got to enjoy sausage sandwiches during their round before heading into the club house for a barbecue lunch, raffles and prize draws.
Dack thanked everyone who donated prizes, including the Lake Crackenback Resort, Bendigo Bank, Tathra Cellars, Stafford’s Hardware and Repco Bega.
“We had some really great prizes for the raffle winners as well as three major prizes for the winning teams.” Dack said.
In regular weekly men’s rounds – Thursday's Don't Work/Won't Work competition continues to be more popular than a member of parliament with dual citizenship, organisers joked.
Peter Crain won A grade with 38 points, while Reg Pauline topped B grade with 37 points.
Balls went down to scores of 36. This was also the first round of the 2017 DWWW championships.
Saturday saw 53 starters vying for the September Monthly Muddle in ideal conditions – "well it was where I was” joked spokesman Trevor Mace.
Bill Campbell from C grade proved to be the day’s best with a score of 68 to claim the Auld Mug.
Runner-up in C grade was Brian Reid with 70.
Craig Nicholson's 69 was good enough to beat Wayne "Treasurer" Trent's 71 and win A grade, while B grade went to George Kennaugh with 72 on a count-back from Jim Hutson.
Ball winners needed a score of 75 or better.
Full results of both competitions can be seen on the notice board or on the club’s website.
Visitors and new members are welcome to join in.
