The side had a 3-2 win after trailing 1-0 at the break.
The Tigers had previously been undefeated and showed their strength to lead the first half.
About 10 minutes into the second half, Tathra scored twice in the space of two minutes to turn things around. First Kamish Threadgate won a penalty that was converted by David Fantham to wipe out the lead,
Then, having the momentum, Jai McCabe scored from a breakaway to put Tathra ahead. When Wolumla equalised with only 3 minutes to go, it looked like the game may finish in a draw, but Tathra kept attacking and Marley McCabe emulated his elder brother Jai to score on the last kick of the game.
Coach Clinton Smith said that win was due to “the effort that all the players made in defence and the way they put their bodies on the line blocking many shots to put pressure on Wolumla.”
“Also the great efforts of our goal keepers, Josh Sass and Oli Clarke, who made some great saves to keep us in the game.”
Earlier, the under 14s had drawn with Bega White 2-2 in Bega.
Officials said five players were out with illness, while four more were in their first round back after recovering from a bout of colds.
Bega managed to slip 2 goals past Woti Fastigata in goals but Tathra kept their heads up going into the second half, even though they were trailing 2-0 at half-time.
Coach Sam Constable said that “the second half was in our favour with about 20 minutes to go.”
“We moved the ball well and really pressed the Bega defence and soon scored out first goal.”
The goal was scored by Eddie Blewett, who also slotted the equaliser late in the piece.
“It was a great effort from the Under 14’s – bring on the finals,” Constable said.
The first grade men’s side were unfortunately handed a 6-1 loss after trailing 4-1 at the break to the Wolumla Tigers.
Officials said it was a challenging start with the Tigers getting ahead 2-0 early on, but Tathra fought back into the game and were rewarded when Andrew Morrison fired home from close range following up on a free-kick taken by Sam Collins.
At 2-1, the Tathra team had hope but, unfortunately, Wolumla scored twice from corners to lead 4-1 at half-time.
The Tigers then found two late goals despite some solid play from United to seal their win.
