Bemboka Garden Club
The first week of August was a busy one for members of Bemboka Garden Club. They were invited to Bemboka Public School for lunch with celebrity TV gardener Costa Georiadis. The club has a close association with the school, assisting in the establishment of a kitchen garden, and making donations to enable the purchase of equipment for the school's classroom kitchen. Costa was an engaging and entertaining guest, getting on extremely well with both school students & staff, as well as the Garden Club members whom he met.

The following week, the club's monthly meeting took place. Camellias were the feature, with Brad Ford giving an informative talk on important facets of competition preparation. Brad, who judges many competitions himself, gave some very useful feedback to members on their own entries for the evening floral arrangements.
The next meeting takes place on Monday, September 4, at Bemboka Memorial Hall. The BVSC Vegetation Management Officer will talk about the latest information on noxious and environmental weeds. For up-to-date information on forthcoming activities, and general information, please visit the club’s website at https://bembokagardenclub.wordpress.com/

Pet of the week
Older cats have so many benefits that they are worth considering as your future companion. When senior cats like Fluffy (pictured) are adopted, they seem to understand that they’ve been rescued, and are all the more thankful for it. A senior cat’s personality has already developed, so you’ll know if he or she is a good fit for your family. They may very well already know basic household etiquette and are often already litter trained and are less likely to “forget” where the box is.
If you would like to adopt Norton or one of the other cats and kittens available through RSPCA contact Sapphire Coast branch of RSPCA through their Facebook page or on 0419267799.
To enquire what dogs are available at the moment through Animal Welfare League NSW Far South Coast Volunteer Branch please call the adoption line on 0400372609 or check our Facebook page www.facebook.com/AnimalWelfareLeagueFarSouthCoastBranch for details.
Dogs and cats adopted through either AWLNSW or RSPCA have all the essential veterinary work done before adoption so that hard work is taken care of.

Daffodil Day
Daffodil Day, a national day of hope for a cancer-free future, is set for Friday, August 25 in 2017. People across the Bega Valley are encouraged to support the event by volunteering, buying merchandise or making a donation.
This year marks 31 years of Daffodil Day in NSW. As one of the largest national fund-raising events in the Southern Hemisphere, Cancer Council hopes to raise $2.1 million in 2017.
In the Southern NSW region alone, it is estimated that approximately 1505 people will be diagnosed with cancer in a single year. By supporting Cancer Council NSW this Daffodil Day, people will be helping to beat cancer by funding vital cancer research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy campaigns.
This year’s theme is ‘For Someone I Know’. By showing support for someone you know, you can help beat cancer and create a better, cancer-free future for all. Bega Valley locals can support Daffodil Day in the following ways:
