They are called “Mini Vinnies”, and they’re working on behalf of the St Vincent de Paul charity to collect food and other resources for those in need. 

Earlier this month they organised a “Souperhero” day, allowing their schoolmates to dress up as their favorite superhero in exchange for donating a can of soup. 

This Wednesday, the group voted that their next charity project will be a food drive. 

Angel Nielson and Maddie White are the Mini Vinnies coordinators, they said the program was a good way for pupils to learn about charity. 

“”We get together to think about ways we can organise jumper drives or food drives, just anything that will help the less fortunate,” Angel said. 

Year 5 pupil Reece Walker said Mini Vinnies was a good thing for everyone to do. 

“I like Mini Vinnies because it helps other people and it is really fun,” he said

Emma Grant is a teacher at St Patrick’s Primary School and facilitator of the Mini Vinnies program. 

She said Bega’s St Vincent de Paul was overwhelmed with the generosity of the school so far. 

The Mini Vinnies team can’t wait to start planning their next charity event.
