This year over 200,000 people plan to plant almost a million seedlings across the country.
Mumbulla School for Rudolf Steiner Education pupils will be planting endemic plants to the school’s swamp land area near the Bega River.
Year 2 pupil Levi Bobeldyk, Mali Everett, Fern Cross and Axel Beattie joined the school’s building and grounds caretaker Jason Armstrong to prepare seedlings on Thursday for Friday’s planting of hundreds of swamp gums and water gums.
“Trees are important because they give you oxygen, and they are good for climbing, so you need to look after them,” Levi said.
“They are important because they give you paper, and also food,” Mali said.
.Mr Armstrong said the newly planted trees will one day help the population in the school’s planned beehive
Weeds will be controlled by Brighter Day Landscapes, and the plants have been supplied by Provincial Plants and Local Land Services.
