The club’s 25th broadbill swordfish and fifth southern bluefin tournaments wrapped up on the weekend, but no catches of the species were reported.
However, officials said those using the line were rewarded with catches of ling, blue eye and hapuku.
In regular fishing news, gummy sharks were very active with the full moon over the weekend and there were good catches reported between Haycock off Merimbula north to Tathra.
Members reported catching some good fish that weighed in close to 15kg.
Meanwhile, great catches of flathead have been taken along the edge of the inner reef south of White Rock and also off Bournda Island.
Happily – members reported there had not been much Chinamen leatherjacket interference at either spot.
Snapper and morwong remain about the reefs. Both soft plastics and pilchard baits are very effective.
A few Salmon are about early at the Merimbula fishing platform, while a few good sized calamari squid have also reported using light coloured number three jigs.
Along the beaches northwards from Aslings at Eden to Tathra, Salmon are about early on, while at dusk good size tailor come on the chew. Silver spinners or gang hooked pilchards are the go.
In the Merimbula front lake the run-in from the sea is the time for trevally and bream over the shallows. Nippers without a sinker or soft plastics will get results.
Reports from the Bega River, which remains open, include some large bream well up-stream on soft plastics.
At Pambula; trevally, bream and tailor remain on the bite. At the Pambula River Mouth now is a good time to troll and spin for Australian salmon.
In club news, the next event on the calendar will be the social ‘salmon Sunday’ meet scheduled for July 30.
All salmon catches can be brought in to the club rooms for weighing at Spencer Park with members to enjoy a barbecue lunch after hitting the water.
The club is also continuing their Friday open days.
New members and visitors are welcome at the Spencer Park club rooms, where everyone can catch up on the latest in the weekly fishing report and enjoy the views of the lake.
