Tathra Preschool is searching the community for lost photographs ahead of its 30th anniversary celebrations later this year.

The preschool is digitising its extensive library of photographs ahead of its October 14 celebration, and is missing images from some of it’s director’s favourite projects.
“We are looking for photographs from our 2007 Sunflower Mosaic Community Art Project with local artist and parent Karen Charlebois, and from our 2008 Under the Sea Community Art Mosaic Project,” the preschool’s director Jane Courtney said on Tuesday.
The preschool is digitising its extensive library of photographs ahead of its October 14 celebration.
The preschool officially opened on March 28, 1987, with two staff members caring for 19 children.
“All they had to start with were boxes, now there’s beautiful furniture,” Ms Courtney said.
“We now have serious early childhood resources, and it has all happened purely from the help of the community.
“We now employ two teachers, five educators, a cleaner and administration officer.”
Ms Courtney said sustainability has always been a focus for the community.
“We have solar panels and rain water tanks, meaning we are sustainable, which is really important for us,” she said.
“The solar panels are only on the roof because Clean Energy For Eternity got them up there.
“We would never be where we are without the Wharf to Waves event as well.”
Many parents in 1987 were members of Tathra Lions CLub, and after council’s approval of land behind Lawrence Park oval, volunteers approached AV Jennings Housing Development who donated the Lands Sales Office at Tura Beach.
“They took the building apart at Tura Beach, and then carefully numbered each piece so it could be put back together by local volunteer builders, plumbers and electricians,” Ms Courtney said.
“Those amazing volunteers then found a man with a truck who helped to transport the building to its current site at Tomigee Street.
“Many more volunteers helped build a fence, create a playground for children and obtain a license for the preschool to operate.”
The preschool will celebrate the anniversary on site from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, October 14.
