The Bega High students worked together to brainstorm colours and designs that would attract more kids to visit the youth centre.
The theme for the mural is ‘What we love about Bega’.
“It’s the whole valley,” explained one of the artists, Callum Jefferis-Bogie. “So there are mountains on one end, and the ocean on the other. In the middle are all the things we love, like trees and skateboards and music.”
Callum contributed the “Wi-Fi eagle” on the mural.
“The eagle represents freedom, and the Wi-Fi signal lets people know they can use the internet here.”
He’s looking forward to showing off his work. “It will be good when it’s up and I can say to my friends that I did that.”
Place based officer Emma Stewart said the youth centre provides a vital service because there is currently no permanent public youth counselor for the region.
“It means the kids are able to come here and chat with each other or support services in a safe space,” she said.
