The branch was delighted that president Stephanie Stanhope was re-elected one of four vice-presidents of the CWA of NSW. Other highlights included Cora Kemeling's second prize in the Rhubarb and Ginger competition and Jenny Foster Crome's beautiful apron was part of the Far South Coast Group’s second prize entry for the highest group point score.
Resident chef Nelleke Gorton was the Land Cookery Committee Awards chief organiser. The awards were a great success and one of the conference's major events.
Keynote speaker Linda Hurley received a standing ovation when she sang a song she wrote dedicated to the CWA. There was lively debate on many motions including aged care services; supporting a ban on unconventional gas exploration, extraction and production; establishment and funding of a cardiac bus service to visit regional and remote areas of NSW; equitable access to internet and telephone services for all rural and regional citizens; and a ban on advertising and promotion of gambling between 6am and 9pm on free to air TV.
Cobargo branch was successful having two health motions passed to encourage the inclusion of a blood test for thyroid function in the standard blood test for pregnant women in their first trimester and the promotion of awareness and prevention of iodine deficiency disorder through women's health programs throughout Australia.
