The credit union has become a drop-off space for anyone looking to donate blankets and pantry food.
Women’s Resource Centre relief coordinator Laura Wilcox said the donations are in desperate by struggling families across the region.
“The blankets are going out the door as quickly as they come in,” Ms Wilcox said.
“The days have been nice but the nights are bitterly cold.”
The initiative will run throughout the winter months.
“I thought about what we could do locally, and wanted to focus on something for the whole staff,” branch manager and Finance Services Union member Stephen Hollaway said.
“We had a lady see the sign on Friday who went straight to Target, got two bag loads of blankets and came back with it.”
The resource centre’s recent fundraising events have seen it able to cover the $10,000 needed for rental of the Bega space until the end of the year.
“It has been a lot of hard work,” Ms Wilcox said.
“We are only open three days a week, and ideally we want to be open all week, but we don’t have the funding.”
