“If we upskill the kids in the management and operation of global networks enabled by Amazon AWS cloud infrastructure, then that’s a high value, commercially attractive service that can be offered from Bega,” Mr O'Duibhir said.

He said the opportunities are now available for work in the areas of server virtualisation, tool sets for security monitoring, storage, redundancy and disaster recovery.

“Say for example Volkswagen has a piece of software it needs to offer all its dealerships, they would send the order through to someone here who would be set up to create that software and make it available to the dealers in a matter of hours,” he said.

“Previously someone would potentially have had to visit each dealership.”

Mr O'Duibhir said the cloud infrastructure now allows someone living in the Bega Valley to be working for companies based overseas.

“You just need to be able to sell your capacity and skill to these companies,’ he said.

“Working with local companies first will give you the exposure.”
