A men’s team contested the state open championship in Sydney, while under 13s and under 15s girls took part in the Canberra hockey carnival.
The men's team reported a lot of cold, early morning games, but didn't let that diminish their enthusiasm for the game. They had a 5-0 win against the hosting team Macarthur, a tightly matched 5-7 loss against Goulburn Valley, a 6-4 win against Griffith, a 7-0 loss against Manning Valley, and a defeat by Coffs Harbour.
Officials said conditions in Canberra were stunning, where 15s coach Jen Russell was interviewed by Channel 9 News to boast about the coastal team.
The under 15s had some tough competition from teams used to playing on turf, but put on a great display of skill and came away with newfound knowledge of the artificial surface.
The team faced losses to North Sydney, Goulburn and a narrow 2-1 loss to Canberra Blues, but rounded the weekend with a 1-0 win against Canberra yellow to finish seventh overall.
The under 13s fared better with a 5-0 win over Sydney East, 4-0 over the Northern beaches a 5-0 against the Canberra Royals and rounding the weekend with a 3-1 win over Goulburn to finish second.
Players thanked coaches Vicki Marks and Jen Russell for their time and knowledge, while the association thanked all the parents and volunteers who drove and helped build a successful weekend.
