We can also report there continue to be salmon catches on beaches south of Narooma as well, just look for the gutters where pilchards and metal lures are working. Off the rocks, there are reports of some nice squid around.

Ron also sent us another photo from an earlier trip to Wallaga Lake showing several bream and a dusky flathead. “Not a bad little haul for a morning's work and yes they were released!”

Ron reports he got all fish on Zman Grubz in the Bloodworm and Motor Oil colours, slipped on Headlock jig heads 2.5 gram with Berkley Fireline Exceed 6lb and Berkley Vanish 4lb leader. “ Works well for me.” 

Thanks again Ron, sounds like a great set-up and great to hear they were put back to fight another day!     

In other news, the offshore fishing was very slow over the weekend both at Montague Island and further offshore. The leatherjackets and/or green toads were even attacking jigs and soft plastics on the western side of the island. The lack of kingfish was only salvaged by plenty of bonito that were taking skirted lures trolled slowly at each corner of the island.

Overall the bluefin were very quiet this long weekend, there were reports of a few albacore to the south but the wait continues for the main bluefin bite to fire up. Bermi Bait and Tackle did report a spearfish and swordfish being caught on the weekend. While the snapper were scarce for some, staffer Kevin got some nice reds to 65cm on reefs to the south.

It was a little disheartening to listen to the “fishing” channel on VHF 22 on Sunday where the Merimbula game fishing club was attempting to run its competition.

The usual gaggle of idiots was constantly swearing and carrying on, so much as that Bermagui marine rescue came on air warning all fishers to do the right thing.

The rescue unit threatened to contact the Water Police, saying the fishing clubs had paid for and fought for the channel repeater and it was a safety issue. So please, all offshore anglers do the right thing and keep the chatter to a minimum and keep it clean.

Dalmeny fishing club will be holding its annual AGM this Sunday, June 18 at 1pm and would like to see all members there. This Sunday being the final weigh-in for the year and the club hopes to see all members attend. Good fishing guys! 

The Narooma Sport and Gamefishing Club hosts its next club outing this Saturday, June 17 on Wagonga Inlet, its homeground. Thoughts are to fish the morning with 8am being low tide.
