On a sunny afternoon a few members even braved the water ahead of the presentation for a swim or on stand up paddleboards provided with instruction from Coastlife’s Col Funston.
Patrols started in October and finished on Anzac Day 2017 with most patrollers doing between 35 and 44 hours during that time following a roster and in a specific patrol group.
Patrollers are required to have their Royal Life Saving bronze medallion and to do a proficiency test each year involving first aid, swimming, running and board rescue.
Patrollers who went above and beyond their hours were recognised, with Paul Boillat doing the most hours and receiving Patroller of the Year, which was impressive being that he only finished his bronze medallion course in January.
The surf carnival awards were presented on a point score basis with the following as winners: Open Male Ben Potter; Open Female Nimmity Ford; U15 Female Luella Boulton; U17 Female Nimmity Ford; Over 50 Male Geoff Boulton; Over 40 Male Martin Firle; Overall Club Champion Luella Boulton.
Perpetual awards for 2016-17:
Club Person of the Year – Maree Boulton
Junior Club Person of the Year – Morgan Chapple
Lifesaver of the Year – Ben Potter
Chris Armstrong Vigilance and Service – Sharon George
Boatie of the Year – Kim Gardner
Patroller of the Year – Paul Boillat
The Tathra SLSC was very grateful to receive a cheque for $11,000 from the Wharf to Waves committee after a very successful weekend in January. The club was also very thankful to Coastlife for a cheque for $3000.
The club thanked the Tathra SLSC committee members who have given many hours of their time, and major sponsor Bega Cheese.
