The juniors bore some good results, while both senior squads suffered losses.
On Sunday morning, the Tathra Under 11’s were playing Eden and the hosts graciously lent a couple of their players to the Tathra team to bring the numbers up to nine-a-side. Both teams showed great commitment with strong tackles and good passing. The Tathra team spread the ball and capitalised on a couple of well-placed crosses taking a 2-0 lead. Orlando Morrison sealed the win with his third goal of the game.
The Tathra Under 14’s team had a big weekend with two games, the first a rain-soaked match against Bega under lights in Merimbula.
Coach Sam Constable said that Tathra found their mojo and responded strongly in the second half, scoring three goals and taking the game right up to Bega. An unfortunate own goal made the final score 5-3 in Bega’s favour.
On Sunday, the depleted side met the highly fancied Merimbula Under 14s. Tathra flipped expectations with an impeccable defensive effort holding out Merimbula’s shots, while Alex mozina put in an inspired performance as striker scoring three goals. Ably assisted by the Jensen twins with two goals. Marley McCabe finished off with a signature goal to give a final score of 6-0.
The Under 16’s Tathra team had a 2-2 draw against a much-improved Bega team after starting well with goals to Jai McCabe and Kamish Threadgate to build a 2-1 lead at the break. However, Bega battled back in the second half and scored a late equaliser.
The Tathra Ladies team had a shortage of players with just eight players taking the field.
They battled hard to contain the strong Eden Killer Whales contingent for about 20 minutes before falling off to trail 3-0 at the break. Tired legs made it more difficult for Tathra in the second half as Eden scored more goals to win 8-0.
The Tathra men’s first grade team were hosting the Pambula Penguins, keen to improve on the 2-0 loss a fortnight ago in Pambula. An early goal to Sam Collins gave the Tathra side the start they were after. Unfortunately, some weaknesses in defence and problems in dealing with long balls put through by the Pambula attack saw Tathra concede the lead and trail 3-1 at the break. Positive talk at half-time about applying pressure on the ball was ably demonstrated by captain Ben Deighan who charged forward from the restart to gain possession and break away to fire home a tidy finish that brought the score back to 3-2. Pambula claimed a late goal off a header to win 4-2.
