And the Grand Hotel’s Peter Turner has thrown his support behind the tournament. 

Mr Turner began playing squash at the club’s inception in 1976 and was a keen masters player until injury forced his retirement recently. 

“I am very happy to support Bega's opportunity to host an event," he said. 

Mr Turner said he can’t play, but will head along to watch a few games and encouraged spectators to join in at the Bega Country Club squash courts.   

Organisers said Masters Squash has a loyal following with members travelling to tournaments throughout NSW each month. 

The Australian Masters Squash Tournament held each September will be in at Ballarat this year.

The standard play at Masters Squash events is excellent with past representative State and Pennants players competing, but all standards of players are welcome with grades for every ability and age group.  Players range in age from the entry level of 30 for women and 35 for men, with many continuing to compete into their 80s.

A Friday night social will be held at the Grand Hotel, while there is a dinner-dance at the Golf Club on Saturday. 

A spokeswoman said it was an honour for the club to host a NSW Masters event and it was a great chance for Bega to show off it’s facilities and skills.
