The program aims to assist regional communities that are affected by mining.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro recently announced $50 million in funding, which means the Resources for Regions program can be extended for another round.
The program has been somewhat controversial in the Illawarra, which has had just one project approved for funding since the program began in 2012.
Of the $236 million allocated so far in the program, Wollongong has received just $4.5 million.
That money was for an upgrade of Cordeaux Road and bridge at Mt Kembla, which was opened last year.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery has been critical of the way the funding has been allocated and the fact that the region seemed to often be overlooked.
