The Bega Chicks held the Sharkettes to a drawn 10-10 scoreline as part of an otherwise clean sweep for the Roosters.
The first grade Roosters were able to conquer the Sharks 38-28 despite lacking a few players to injury, while the reserves continued their strong run 14-0 and the under 18s got up 22-10.
It was the league-tag Chicks who claimed the surprise result against the yet-undefeated Sharkettes as the visitors trailed 10-6 early in the second half.
Madison Parbery made a burst in the opening half and converted her own try to set up an early Bega lead 6-0.
But as the leading team in the competition, it came as no surprise that the Moruya outfit were able to level through prop Ellie Doherty.
The two sides continued to trade sets through the ruck with no one able to secure a big break and the siren sounded at 6-6.
It was fullback Elyse Philipzen setting up the charge for Chicks in the second half, but Moruya centre Hannah Cadogan found the mark soon after and the teams deadlocked at 10-10.
The headline first grade was also up in the air for the Roosters, with the hosts suffering some big injuries in recent encounters.
Roosters captain-coach Kane Morgan was able to draw on the depth through the club’s rising under 18s and the reserve grade squad to pad out his ailing first grade line up.
But it was enough to deny the Moruya Sharks where it mattered as the hosts claimed the result.
Moruya has also been hit with some injuries, but key playmakers were still in place with Caine Brierley opening the scoring on the day with Dennis Green firing the conversion between the posts.
Ryan Apps charged through the Moruya line on one of his trade-marked bursts before the Sharks crept ahead again through Rhys Burazer.
Scott Fuller closed the gap once more before Declan Bower-Scott ran in a try to take a two-point edge over the visitors.
Unfortunately, Brierley’s cunning saw him exploit a gap to put Moruya ahead at the break 18-14.
However, the momentum flipped in the second half and became the Roosters’ show as Apps opened the scoring early to tie the scores.
Fuller ran in his second, then Zac Cuzner got the Bega side well ahead of their rivals with Moruya dialling in two tries to Green and Corey Arnold with 10 minutes left to play.
Leading 32-28, the Roosters had a collective sigh of relief when Jarrod Tamatea crossed with three minutes to play, setting up the 38-28 lead.
The Roosters play in Pambula this weekend.
