He’d only just run on from the bench and opened the flood gates for Candelo-Bemboka against the Bombala Blue Heelers in their seventh consecutive win.
The Panthers were never truly challenged on the day, running out a 42-6 result over the Blue Heelers.
Unfortunately the result was flipped in the earlier league tag match as the High Heelers snagged the result 36-4.
In the men’s clash it could have been anyone’s game when the Blue Heelers levelled the score 6-6 in the 16th minute.
However, the Panthers shot back to the front before running in a flurry of tries to lead 24-6 by the break.
Scorers included Brendan Kidd, Jake McDonald, Josh Cochrane and Michael Motbey.
Bevan Taylor was accurate with the boot, piling on the conversion points in the opening half and backing up his efforts in the second period.
The Panthers were hitting up hard through the middle, but also putting on good metres with quick bursts out of the centres including Nathan Moon.
Kidd doubled down his efforts early in the second half, picking up another try and setting the pace for the game.
The Panthers ran in two more tries in a dominant display as they comfortably claimed the win.
Earlier the Pink Panthers had rattled the Blue Heelers through the ruck despite the blowout scoreline.
Five-eighth Cailin Johnson burst through the line on the opening set to stun the visitors with an early 4-0 lead.
For the next 10 minutes the High Heelers were left dumbfounded by a seemingly impenetrable wall of defence from the Pink Panthers.
Unfortunately as the team tired from successive defensive sets, gaps began to form and the High Heelers made their break later into the half.
Kayley Keavey was the first attacker through a gap before Amy Stone followed it up with centre Tash Stewart rounding out the scoring in the first half.
A good kicking game from the High Heelers saw them take the lead at the break 18-4.
The Panthers continued battling through the middle, but some unfortunate handling errors gave the Heelers field position and the visitors took control with tries to Stone, Stewart and Taya Evans.
Officials said it was a strong game for the Pink Panthers in spite of the scoreline as the Panthers hone their skills on the park.
The club travels to Cooma this weekend.
