Twelve South Coast players kicked a goal, with Ricky Neels bagging five and Ben Green four. Green, Jack Boxsell, Courtney Ward, Aiden Steele and Scott Phillips were among a host of players to star in a dominant display.
“We were fantastic, really slick,’’ said South Coast coach Rod Richards.‘’Our spread and run was impressive.
‘’We went into the game wanting to show what AFL South Coast can do and hopefully we’ve pressed our case to a few of the other zones that we’re ready to take them on.
‘’We’re set for the next level.’’
Stingrays coach Luke Taylor said he knew the South Coast could produce a strong team, but didn’t expect the punishment the locals copped on the weekend.
The first half was entirely one-sided as the Stingrays trailed 80-7 before rallying in the second half.
Tyson Nunn led the charge for the Stingrays with two goals, while Louis Coulton, Jason Sailuma and Corey Shepphard all kicked one.
Officials said the South Coasts’ Neels booted two first-quarter goals as South Coast led by 30 points at the first change. The margin blew out to 76 points by halftime with Sapphire Coast kept pointless in the second term.
The South Coast team is now making a push to take on some of the bigger opposition, while SCAFL will regroup and look to a stronger showing next year, when it’s hoped the round will return to Berrambool Oval on the Far South Coast.
