Ladies League Tag
The High Heelers put on a fantastic display of football, keeping to structure, running onto the ball at pace and with great support play. Tagging efforts in defence were formidable keeping the Eden team scoreless, winning 46-0. The return of speedster Tash Stewart and various other girls coming back from injury gave the Heelers great confidence out on the paddock. Georgie Clarke and Patrice Clear were instrumental out on the right side, both tagging with great precision and running fantastic lines to score numerous points. Likewise the combination of Abbey Kimber and Monique Perkins out to the left was proving too good for the Eden defence. Georgia Jones injected her pace out wide and slid in-field well to make some great tags. Amy Stone was great in fullback helping to direct the team in defence and running fantastic support play in attack. Emma Sullivan provided great talk and direction in the centre of the field with Sue Morgan and Trina Brownlie working hard in the middle and at dummy half. Players player and three points went to Patrice Clear (sponsored by Clear Cut Electrical), two points went to Georgie Clarke and one point was shared between Tash Stewart (sponsored by Raw Strength & Fitness) and Georgia Jones (sponsored by Bombala Garden Jewels).
Reserve Grade
The Bombala Reserve Grade team continue to find more depth and a credit to their dedication and hard work, were able to bag their first win of the season against the Bermagui-Cobargo side. Leigh Hodak was instrumental in providing go-forward with barn storming runs gaining great field possession for the Heelers. Andrew Rutherford played a fantastic game able to bag two tries for the day. The return of the Anderson brothers was a great noticeable addition to the team with Andrew steering the boys around the paddock and Chris Anderson being fearless in defence and also scoring points. At half time the Bombala lads would find themselves with a comfortable lead 18-4. Aaron Stewart scored first points after the break, with great strength was able to bust through the line. Bombala again with the momentum was able to find points through Pat Gaudie. Captain Coach Korie Elton lead by example running hard and able to make great metres as did Aaron Cusbert. Andrew Anderson would score last points out wide taking the final end score to a convincing win for the Heelers 32-4. Players player and three points went to Leigh Hodak, two points went to Chris Anderson and one point went to Aaron Cusbert.
First Grade
While the Heelers came out of the blocks slowly, they were able to compose themselves at half time to play a very strong second half claiming a good victory at 34-16. Eden would take the early lead 4-0, scoring out wide. Tyler Jones was brilliant, able to display great footwork to score next, with Wame Belolevu’s successful conversion it was 6-4 to Bombala. However with sluggish defence Bombala conceded another two tries before half time. They were able to hit back once more via a great effort from Wame to link with lightening paced Alex Rosten, however the Heelers would trail 16-12 at half time.
From the kick off the Bombala lads looked like a different team, Adam Rodwell and Luke Ingram were instrumental in their defensive efforts, with hits so big almost felt by the crowd. So too were the efforts from Paul Perkins and Blake Robinson showing great urgency. The combination of Sami Buinimasi’s pace and sheer strength meant he was breaking the line on numerous occasions in attack, gaining great metres and often able to offload to a steaming Zac Slater or Andrew Guthrie. Next points saw an offload from Slater to Tyler Jones who was able to skip away from the line drawing the fullback and popping to a flying Bailey Jones in support. As the Heelers edged back in front 18-16, the spring in their steps could be seen. Bailey Jones accompanied by Nick and Alex Rosten, was fantastic under the high ball and returning the ball back up the field. Again it was the quick and classy footwork of Tyler Jones that would break the defensive line next, finding Paul Perkins in support to score close to the posts, taking it to 22-16 on the scoreboard. Next points would be set up on the left hand side with Luke Ingram able to get find Wame who would offload to the speedster Alex Rosten out on the wing, who could not be matched for pace scoring under the posts. The score would see the Heelers breakaway at 28-16. Not finished yet and with the wind in their sails, Luke Ingram would break the line and whilst sideways in the air would manage to offload a beautiful ball to the ever reliable halfback Tyler Jones to score final points under the black dot. The end score was 34-16, as the Heelers managed to keep Eden scoreless in the second half. Players player and three points went to Tyler Jones (sponsored by Raw Strength & Fitness), 2 points went to Bailey Jones (sponsored by The Delegate Hotel) and 1 point went to Zac Slater (sponsored by D&L Earthworks).
