Among those joining the day’s tributes was Ron Mullaney of Bega with his sons and grandchildren – all of whom have served.
Ron, 84, was in the National Service, sons Michael and Tony are retired from the Army and Navy respectively, grandson Allan was in the Navy (now retired) and granddaughter Kristy is currently a Leading Seaman with the Navy, posted to HMAS Albatross in Nowra.
Kristy returned to her home town to march alongside her grandfather on Tuesday in front of around 1000 members of the Bega community.
She said it was always good to participate in the marches with her family, but they all admitted there was a lot of friendly ribbing between them due to the Army-Navy rivalry.
“We always take the mickey out of each other’s service,” Tony said with a grin.
