Digital co-working space, CoWS Near the Coast, will host a Regional Pitchfest information session on Thursday from 6.30pm, ahead of the state finals in July.
The space’s coordinator Liam O'Duibhir is excited to be hosting the session, providing participants with an opportunity to pitch their ideas in 60 seconds or under.
“It is all about getting more people aware of the whole startup journey,” he said.
“It’s a national event, with Australia Post sponsoring, and it’s a good opportunity for young people to be able to take part.
“I’ve invited people from Cooma, Bermagui and Eden, and a group of young people from Funhouse Studio will also be coming down.”
Participants will have 60 seconds to pitch their idea in front of the event’s founder and entrepreneur Dianna Somerville.
Ms Sommerville launched the initiative last year in her home town of Wagga Wagga, with the aim of providing innovators a platform to share their ideas.
In 2017, the event is being run across Australia, providing a unique opportunity for Bega Valley innovators.
Ms Somerville said many people in regional areas are sitting on their ideas, and the event provides them a chance to take a step towards turning the idea into a reality.
“A lot of people have asked us the same question: Is my idea good enough?,” she said.
“The simple answer is that an idea is worth nothing if you don’t do anything with it.
“We all have to start somewhere, and the Australia Post Regional Pitchfest is an encouraging, inclusive and low-risk way of taking that next step.”
Entries are open until Friday, April 28, with $100,000 worth of prizes available to anyone able to successfully pitch their idea.
Ms Somerville will provide some guidance and support for potential applicants though the entry process.
Also involved in the event is the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne Accelerator Program, local councils, business organisations and start-up communities.
