Three boats and crews from the Wallagoot Lake Boat Club raced in a fleet of 45 NS14s in their State Titles at Wangi Wangi over Easter.
"We had a fantastic time, our sailing improved dramatically and it was competitive sailing right through the fleet," said Josh Dorrough.
Club secretary Tony Hastings agreed, adding that the big fleets meant there was tight battles throughout. “No matter how well or badly we did, there were other boats right there to race with,” Hastings said.
The event was a great family outing, with Darren and his daughter Paula on one boat, Josh and his sons Luca and Jarrah racing, and many other families there.
The NS14 are a development class, where newer boats have faster shapes, masts and so on, but the local boats raced well. “Superfly” finished 19th overall, while "Yikes!" came 32nd, despite a penalty for starting early in one race, with a best race of 24th. "Aussie Graffiti" never came last, didn't start a few races, and finished 43rd.
On Saturday, the sailors return to the Wallagoot Lake Boat Club for some handicap -start races.
