The Bega & District Nursing Home Auxiliary need donations of flowers and foliage for the Anzac Day wreaths which they and a band of willing volunteers make for the Anzac Day services throughout the Bega Valley Shire. 

Flowers and foliage can be delivered to the underground car park at Hillgrove House accessed from Heath Street from 8am on Monday, April 24.  Collection of flowers and foliage  can be arranged in Bega and surrounds through Helen Slater on 6492 0627 and at Tathra through Annette Warby 6494 1621.

Wreaths can be ordered through Edna Duncanson 6492 2073. The Auxiliary would like to thank everyone for their support in this important fund-raiser; the proceeds will be used to provide additional comforts for the residents of Hillgrove House.

The members of the Bega Hospital Auxiliary would like to thank the Bega community for the support they gave the auxiliary by buying tickets in the  Easter raffle.

The raffle was drawn last Thursday by the Manager of Woolworths and the winners were Kerrie McGuire, Robyn Dansey and Yvonne Booker. I would also particularly like to thank those who made generous donations.

You can be assured that the money that was raised will go to much needed equipment for the hospital.

Recently Bega Hospital Auxiliary held the Zone Conference and celebrated their 80th birthday at the Bega Country Club.

Thanks must go to the Club and their employees who were most co-operative and helpful. A truly delicious lunch was produced by the Golf Ladies.

The auxiliary is holding an Autumn Fashion Parade in conjunction with Millers at Bega Country Club on Thursday, April 27, 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Again we invite the local community to support the Auxiliary by coming along to this function. The cost is $10 which includes supper. Bookings are not essential, please just turn up and enjoy the night.

The next meeting of the Auxiliary is on Friday, April 21, in the Group Therapy room on the lower level of the South East Regional Hospital commencing at 10am. All are welcome.

The Bermagui Country Club Social Anglers’ Club having postponed the fishing competition over Easter, will be meeting up on Sunday 23rd April at 12.30 pm for the popular BBQ for members.  Winners of the fishing comp. over next weekend 21st/23rd will be announced at the get-together.

Frank and Maria Moon Family Reunion will be held on Saturday May 13, 11am-3pm at Candelo Hall.

Frank and Maria Moon settled at Kameruka and raised 12 children. Descendants are Moons, Lloyds, Taylors, Madderns, Jamiesons, Robinsons, Hazelgroves, Bobbins and many many more. There are 944 living descendants that we know of so far.

Grand Pacific Health are offering a free five-week falls prevention exercise program – recognising that falls put seniors in hospital more than any other cause each year.

‘LiFE’ teaches participants to incorporate some simple leg strengthening and balance activities into daily tasks and routines.

GPH Health Promotion Officer, Carmen Falvey says the course is being offered to people in the Bega Valley over the age of 60.

“One in three people aged over 65 fall over at least once per year, so there is a real need for a programs like this,” she said. 

“What makes LiFE different from other programs is that people do not have to set aside special ‘exercise’ time each day, something that many of us find difficult to do. Instead, LiFE activities are done throughout the day, such as when washing dishes, hanging out washing or cleaning our teeth.”

The program runs for one hour each week for five weeks and each participant also has an individual appointment at the start and finish of the program. The first classes will be held at Eden on Tuesdays at 1pm.

Initial individual assessments Tuesday, May 9, program begins Tuesday, May 16, at RSL Memorial Hall, Calle Calle Street, Eden.
