The victors side also contained fellow Bomaderry Swamprat Leanna Boyes – who also played a big part in the four point victory.
“I couldn't fault the way the girls started the match, as we led 12-nil after 10 minutes,” Atfield said.
“Our attack and defence was great but after the second try we got complacent.
“As a result, Canberra hit back with two tries and levelled the scores at 12-all.
“But just before half-time, we scored again, to lead by four going into the break.
“And that’s how the score remained, as we tried a little too hard to push the pass in the second half and made too many errors.
“In saying that, we defended six Canberra sets on our line, as our scramble defence held out, to secure the win.”
Atfield, Boyes and the Illawarra players will now wait till next week to find out if they are named in the CRL side to take on City in May.
