“The triathlon will be held in and around Bemboka Pool at the western outskirts of our beautiful Bega Valley,” race director Helmut Eder said.
He said the group was “learning something new every year” and had some minor tweaks to improve the triathlon in March.
The day opens early with registrations available from 7am and the open event to run from 8am sharp.
Following will be the easier junior and adult fun triathlons that cover a shorter distance.
“One change which we think will improve the flow of the event is that we are once again moving the transition area – this time hopefully to it’s final location on Kameruka Street just south of the pool,” Mr Eder said.
He said it meant organisers had to invest in some proper triathlon-style bike rakes, but the new transition zone would help separate those on the cycling leg from the runners and “greatly improve the rhythm of the triathlon”.
“The new transition area is also bigger than last year’s, giving athletes more room for the change-over,” he said.
The open event will feature a 300 metre swim, followed by an 11km bike ride and capped off with a 4km road/ cross-country run.
The two fun triathlons are aimed at participation with entrants swimming just 100 metres, a 2km ride and a 1km run.
“They follow the same legs as the main triathlon, there is just less of each,” Mr Eder said.
Organisers will also look at new methods of tallying the times to provide quicker race results than previously.
Mr Eder said the triathlon provided incredible surrounds to compete in.
“All those who haven’t participated in any of the previous Bemboka Triathlons will no doubt be amazed at the beautiful cycling track through the hills of the Bega Valley, being treated to spectacular views of the mountains in every direction,” he said.
“Of course the running leg is also a gem, leading through the serene bush of the Bemboka River Reserve.”
He joked the Friends of Bemboka Pool group might be biased, but the highlight was certainly the swim leg in the Bemboka Pool.
This year’s triathlon has received a record level of sponsorship from Bega Valley businesses and Mr Eder said the group were extremely grateful for the support.
The Bemboka Lions Club will also run a community barbecue to keep everyone fed and hydrated.
Entry fees are $30 for Adults and $15 for under 16s. Register online at https://form.jotform.co/FOBP/2017BembokaTriathlon.
“We hope we can continue the success of previous Bemboka triathlons and make this year’s event once again a combination of fun and fitness,” Mr Eder said.
