WEDNESDAY, 5.30PM: A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the driver of the truck was freed from the vehicle about 3.50pm.
The man, aged in his 50s, was transported to Canberra Hospital by rescue helicopter for treatment.
4.30PM: The male passenger of the truck was treated at the scene, but was released in a stable condition.
At 3pm, emergency services were still working to free the trapped driver.
2.20PM: A truck has crashed on the Snowy Mountains Hwy about halfway up Brown Mountain leaving its driver trapped and injured.
At 12.15pm Wednesday, February 22, the truck was driving down the mountain when the driver reportedly had difficulty braking.
He managed to move the truck on to a small flat storage area at the road’s edge, but the vehicle still went over the embankment and down the mountainside a short distance. It was difficult to see from the road.
The male passenger was able to exit the crashed vehicle but as of 2.15pm the driver was still trapped inside.
Police, Ambulance, Volunteer Rescue Association, Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue personnel are all on site. Efforts to rescue the driver from the truck are underway and tow trucks were arriving on scene by 2.30pm to extricate the truck once given the all clear.
Both lanes are currently open but emergency vehicles are parked along the embankment side of the road so motorists are asked to drive with caution in the area.
