Airport skirmish
They wouldn't need to fill all the seats if they stopped in between Melbourne and Sydney! That way we could get cheap flight from Virgin.

The issue remains that the area isn't big enough to attract larger aircraft. There's not yet enough traffic to fill a 70 seater on a regular basis. If we were a bigger regional centre, we could attract bigger aircraft and other carriers. We're not, and we currently can't.
Anthony Hancock
Yes for safety reason as much as allowing other and bigger planes to land and be more cost effective. The money spent will be an investment for the next generation.

Rex has been telling council for some time that the market does not yet warrant a bigger runway - and if they proceed they will make it unsustainable so Rex will not be able to continue its service. It is also environmentally unsustainable - a white elephant really - why not spend the money on something that will have a positive social and economic impact...the Bundian Way development, for example.
Johanne Bull
It would be pertinent to check the price of fares to other centres like Tamworth and Wagga. They cost around the same as Rex and have multiple carriers coming in including Rex, Virgin and Qantas. There is not the economy to support lower fares as seen in Ballina and similar places. We need to promote the area and that in turn may reduce the cost.

They landed a Hercules plane there last year to take the lost sea cow to Seaworld. The runway is not the problem. Make the flights cheaper and they'll get bums on seats.
