RMS has scheduled the work next month.
Inspections have been carried out on site from Thursday, February 2 to help develop plans to carry out the work, which is expected to start in late March and will take about three months to complete, weather permitting.
Further information on the bridge maintenance activities and any impact to motorists and marine traffic will be confirmed closer to the start of work.
RMS has been carrying out a number of investigations to recommend a preferred option for the future of the old Nowra bridge.
Until a recommendation is finalised, Roads and Maritime will continue to maintain the old bridge.
