A special match will be played at the Wolumla Recreation Ground as part of the Pink Stumps Day campaign.
Organisers said it will be a special Twenty20 showdown between the Wolumla Clydesdales and a team headed up by Chris O’Donnell known as the Berrambool Bullants.
The clubs came together to host the event in support of Kylie Parks, who said her life changed forever after a breast cancer diagnosis in 2014.
“At the age of 37 I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer,” Ms Parks told the BDN.
What followed that horrifying moment was multiple surgeries, enduring six months of sickening chemo treatments and 25 sessions of targeted radiation.
Ms Parks said the treatments had been world-altering, but also affected her family.
“Life changed not only for me, but my husband, my daughter who was nine at the time and my son, who was six,” she said.
Ms Parks said at times her world was falling apart, but picking up the pieces was Bega-based Breast Care Nurse Jenny.
“The Bega Valley is extremely lucky to have a breast care nurse here helping local families understand what is happening once you hear the dreaded words ‘you have cancer’,” Ms Parks said.
“She is the one that explains things when it all becomes too hard to understand and she is often the one holding your hand and reminding you to breathe.”
So Ms Parks said she began organising for the Clydesdales to host their own Pink Stumps Day round so she could “give back to the Foundation that had personally helped me a great deal”.
The two teams are now eager to turn the Wolumla Recreation Ground pink and do their part to support the McGrath Foundation and help roll out Breast Care Nurses across Australia.
The clubs will host a barbecue and have cold drinks and zooper doopers for sale in the canteen on the day.
There will also be a high tea on the hill for a $5 donation and everyone is asked to bring a plate to share.
Raffles will run on the day and a spokeswoman for the event is encouraging to join in the spirit and help support a worthy cause.
“So wear some pink, bring the family along for a great community day and make a donation to a good cause,” the spokeswoman said.
Players will don as much pink as they fancy to play with a pink ball and pink stumps on the day in support of the McGrath Foundation and the Breast Care Nurse program.
The match will run from 11am with the explosive Twenty20 format expected to provide a good spectacle for everyone on the day.
