The boy quickly found his life’s passion and went to as many workshops as he could. Life has now turned full circle with an exhibition of Mukerji’s works currently on show until January 29.
Father Saugato said his son was somewhere on the “spectrum” and sees the world in a unique way.
“As you can see he’s perfectly normal in some ways and in some ways he’s child like, but I think that’s what becomes his art,” he said.
“It makes it different, quirky. He sees [life] through a slightly different lens.”
Curated by Deirdre Arthur Armstrong and Eliza Biddle, Being Shaunak is a collaboration with other Illawarra artists to showcase the energy and colour of Mukerji’s digital works through collage.
“Spending time with Shaunak's work was really rewarding to me,” said contributing artist Bettina Kaiser.
“I feel like having gained a deeper understanding on his way of seeing the world and how artistic sensibility works. In my works I worked on ways to ‘freeing’ some of his figures in the art pieces from the rigid frame they were in.”
This is Mukerji’s third solo exhibition. For more information visit: www.wollongongartgallery.com.au
