Director of Maritime Angus Mitchell said Roads and Maritime launched the roving program to provide boaters a safe and convenient means to dispose of expired flares, with mobile collections set up along the NSW coastline throughout January.
It will run at the Bermagui Harbour boat ramp on January 18 from 2pm-5pm.
Mr Mitchell said this program promoted a culture of safer boating.
“Most flares have a use-by-date of three years and must be replaced before expiry,” he said.
“Penalties apply for not carrying current flares on a vessel, so it is vital boat owners regularly check and replace flares.”
