More than 20,000 books of all descriptions were on sale Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, with close to half estimated to have sold.
In what’s been described as its busiest first day yet, the book fair saw takings of $10,000 just on the Friday, and a little over $16,000 for the whole weekend, from an estimated 2500 people
“It was extremely busy – it’s probably the best one we’ve ever had,” Bega Rotary president Charlie Blomfield said after the big pack-up on Sunday afternoon. “The quality of the books donated this year was excellent.”
Money raised by the regular book fairs goes towards the community work of Bega Rotary, including the carers accommodation project at the South East Regional Hospital.
Mr Blomfield said thanks to Bendigo Bank, EFTPOS was available for the first time this year and proved a beneficial addition.
The book fair returns in the first week of July.
