While modern music streaming megastars Drake and Justin Bieber topped lists for other regions, they are noticeably absent from the Bega geo-targeted data.
Bega’s most streamed artists, tracks and albums show’s the community’s love for all things rap and country, with a sprinkling of reggae and modern pop.
Yonkers rapper DMX’s 2003 track X Gon' Give It to Ya from the soundtrack to his film costarring Jet Li, Cradle 2 the Grave, is Bega’s most listened song, perhaps due to it’s re-release on the soundtrack of Marvel Comics’ blockbuster film Deadpool,
Finishing off the top five were Ed Sheeran’s Photograph, Florida Georgia Line’s Like You Ain’t Even Gone, Becky G’s Shower and Luke Bryan’s Play It Again.
Showing the town’s affinity for country music, Bryan was is most streamed artist in town, and his 2013 album Crash My Party is the most streamed album.
The 40-year-old has has sold over 7 million albums and 27 million singles worldwide.
Second on the list of most streamed artists is Jamaican superstar Bob Marley and his band The Wailers.
Marley was followed by London group Mumford and Sons, Adelaide rap group Hilltop Hoods and Detroit rapper Marshall Mathers III, better known by his stage name Eminem.
Country albums filled the top three places with Nashville duo Florida Georgia Line’s 2014 album Anything Goes and their 2012 debut Here's to the Good Times.
In 2015, Forbes estimated the duo’s annual income was $36.5million.
Rounding off the most streamed albums is Melbourne rapper 360’s 2014 album Utopia and Melbourne electronica singer-songwriter Chet Faker’s 2014 album Built on Glass.
Traveling from the Brisbane to Geelong in their Spotify Summer Tour bus are Beatrice McBride, Thomas Moore and David Harrison.
The trio stopped off in Bega on Tuesday afternoon, and Ms McBride said not everyone along the way had heard of the Swedish company, and music streaming which has been credited with restoring growth to a stagnant global music market.
“I met a motel owner in Tweed heads who’d never heard of Spotify,” she said.
“She said her favourite artist was Enya so i told her about it and the next morning she came up to me and said she’d been streaming Enya albums all night.”
