Residents rendered homeless after Saturday’s Millingandi fire have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Sapphire Coast.

Immediately following Saturday afternoon’s fire, Michelle Nitschki took to Facebook to call for donations for her neighbours who lost their homes. She was inundated with clothes, furniture and appliances, all generously donated by people wanting to help.
“These donations have illustrated why I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else,” Ms Nitschki said. “I had to pull down the post because I couldn’t collect any more.”
To cap it off, on Tuesday morning, Ms Nitschki and fellow Merimbula Lake Holiday Park residents Virginia Kurtz and Geoffrey Hodg travelled to Bournda to pick up a caravan donated by Anna Jones.
The van will become John Clogg’s new home.
“John has lost his home, his car, he lost everything through no fault of his own. This is a heartwarming response to a heartbreaking situation,” Ms Nitschki said.
She said a group of volunteers will work to turn the van into a home for John, who she described as an independent man despite having had a stroke.
“John currently has a roof over his head but we want to give him a home.”
