No ring road ‘a joke’
Tathra is the home of an icon – the Tathra Wharf. Over the past 12 months the NSW Galleries have become more and more interested in our museum, according to my information it is the only deep water wooden wharf in the whole of Australia.

So now you tell me why we should not have a one-way road that will allow buses, motor homes and cars with trailers to travel and park near the icon.
This is truly an icon and it is ours, right on a beautiful headland. With the fishing platform, coffee shop and our museum, the complex provides fun for all young, middle aged and the elderly.
On two separate Sunday shifts 10am-1pm I counted 83 and 87 cars who drove down, could not find a park and turned around – and the money that should have been spent in Tathra went with them to a more friendly area. Shame on us.
All we need is a one-way road with parking. We have a national bus company that calls in on us as part of its trips. I have to have a feeder bus bring them down from the hotel car park to the museum, or they back the bus down the windy road for the tourists to have time with us.
We are trying to attract tourists to the area and we do all we can to make the stay unfriendly. The whole situation is a joke.
Next year I intend to be part of the cruise ship project, along with a few other business we can and should form a day trip from the cruise ships to the Tathra Wharf and by then we need suitable access.

A road is for all people
I strongly endorse Rosemary Brittliff's letter regarding rebuilding the ring road over a walking path. As she states, a road is for all the people whereas a path is only for those who can walk!

Hampers to bring cheer
I am writing to say a big thank you to community members for their support of the Women’s Resource Centre hampers this year. Staff from TAFE, Centrelink, Community Health-Mental Health, Tathra School via REAP and The Triangle as well as five anonymous donors for their generous donations of cash to our 2016 Christmas Hamper appeal for families, women, children and disadvantaged people.
As the coordinator I can’t express how much it means to the centre and the users of community services in the Bega Valley to be able to provide a wonderful hamper of goodies at Christmas time to their clients.
WRC provided 18 hampers to families including 38 children. Each hamper included reusable bags donated by Woolworths and full of yummy goodies, useful items and special treats for Christmas.
We received lots of donations of non-perishable food and great presents from community members, so we were able to provide a bountiful hamper to each family.
We were able to give the hampers to clients from Staying Home Leaving Violence, Women’s Resource Centre, Far South Coast Family Support Service, SEWACS youth program and Mission Homelessness Service. The workers from these services were overwhelmed as well and very excited to be able to have something positive to share with their clients at this time of the year.

Christmas pension scare
Will Mike Kelly MP disown Bill Shorten's endorsement of last week's disgraceful guttersnipe “robocall” campaign by the ACTU and CFMEU designed to deliberately scare pensioners at Christmas time?
Not likely. Eden-Monaro was blitzed by the $50,000 robocall pension-scare, dishonestly based on examples of a tiny fraction of well-off couples with at least $708,000 in assets on top of their family home - far greater assets than 90 per cent-plus of all pensioners. Just a repeat of the union "Mediscare" lies during the election.
