Over $14million from savings and community donations has been invested into the new works, which will be on display to the public on Wednesday, December 7 between 11am and 2pm.
Sapphire Coast Community Aged Care Group CEO, Jim Butterworth, said the new space’s 47 single rooms with ensuites, five lounge rooms, dining room and three internal secure court yards will be open for viewing to the Bega Valley community.
He said the new facility is the culmination of much hard work and determination.
“Five years ago the board of directors who are very community minded volunteers looked to start the expansion,” he said.
“We are the only pure charity that’s not for profit in the Bega area.”
He said the development has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
“In all respects it’s environmentally friendly,” he said.
“We’ve even installed a 60,000 gallon (23,000 litre) underground water tank for the garden.”
The three internal courtyard gardens built with the help of local gardening extraordinaire Margaret Sirl.
“We will also have an internal cafe up and running in January next year,” Mr Butterworth said.
Staff underwent training in the new space this week ahead residents moving in on December 12.
He said the changing demographic of the Bega Valley means the construction of the new facility was crucial.
“People are moving here with their mum and dad and want to know we have the best facilities,” he said.
The group employs over 230 staff who cater for the needs of the 360 residents.
“The community are fantastic but we need further donations because we stilled haven’t paid for it all,” he said.
“Every donation helps, it doesn’t matter how much it is.
Mr Butterworth said the group had received single donations of up to $45,000 dollars, and sizeable donations from the Bega and District Nursing Home Auxiliary, Paynter Dixon Consultants and Lions Club Bega at the recent Spring Ball.
