The program, for serving and ex-serving men and women, is a six week guitar course where participants learn some basic chords and strumming patterns.
From there, if you are keen, there is an eight-week songwriting course where you can put pen to paper and start turning your stories into songs.
The sessions are led by experienced musicians and songwriters, who encourage participants to find their voice, express themselves and have fun with a group of like-minded people.
Guitars are provided in the sessions to get the journey going, however, if you play already and have your own guitar you can bring it along.
Nowra RSL Sub-Branch assistant secretary Debby Rayner is looking for local serving or ex military personnel who would be keen to take part in the program.
“We would also love to hear from any guitar teachers or players who would like to be part of the program,” she said.
Soldier Songs and Voices was founded by Dustin Welch in 2011 in Austin, Texas.
Joined by his father Kevin, the program is now nationwide, with 11 chapters throughout the US.
The People First Charitable Trust launched Soldier Songs and Voices Australia in March this year.
In Australia chapters are currently operating in Brisbane, Townsville, Frankston in Melbourne, Palmerston in the Northern Territory and Newcastle.
It is envisaged the lessons would be held on an individual basis in the committee room of the Nowra RSL Sub-Branch in Junction Street, Nowra.
Anyone who would like to take part can contact Debby on 0413 787858.
